Apricot F1 with a permanent grin, kept at an inch and a half. He hops onto the table before we've finished lowering it.
Yorkipoos (yorkiepoos, if you spell it that way) pair a Yorkie's silky hair with a poodle's curl, and the result is a small dog with a coat that needs real maintenance. K-Pup grooms them in a quiet mobile trailer in your driveway — no waiting room, no other dogs, and usually under ninety minutes start to finish.

Every Coat, Every Generation
F1, F1B and multigen yorkipoos carry very different amounts of curl. For the poodle side of that inheritance, see the AKC Poodle breed page.
The classic first-generation coat: loose waves, soft texture, moderate maintenance. It looks great at an inch and a half and combs out in a couple of minutes a day.
More poodle in the mix means tighter curl, less shedding and far more matting. These dogs need a comb — not a slicker alone — and a groom every four to five weeks to hold any length.
Flatter, glossier hair with tan or silver colouring. It straight-dries beautifully and can be kept longer than a curly coat with the same effort.
Yorkipoo puppy coats change texture between eight and twelve months. Frequent short visits during that window teach the dog the routine and stop the coat change from turning into a shave-down.

Built For Small Doodles
A slicker brush glides over the top of a yorkipoo coat and leaves the mat underneath. We comb everything to the skin before the bath and show you the spots that always go first.
Hair grows into the eye corners and inside the ear canal on this cross. We clear both every visit — it prevents most of the irritation and infections we see.
Small dogs and loud dryers don't naturally mix. Warm air, low pressure, a hand on the dog the whole time, and breaks whenever they're needed.
Long nails change how a toy dog stands and put strain on knees already prone to slipping. Nails come short every visit, and we'll brush teeth on request.
For a straightforward guide to coat types in poodle crosses, the Poodle Club of America covers texture, curl and grooming expectations better than most doodle-specific sites.

Full comb-out, bath, fluff dry, body clipped or scissored to length, rounded face, feet, sanitary, nails and ears.
Deep clean, complete dry, full comb-out, eye-area and feet tidied — the in-between visit that protects your length.
When the curl has locked up, a humane short reset with a full skin check and an honest plan for keeping it longer next cycle.
Our Process
Every yorkipoo appointment follows the same order, start to finish, in the trailer in your driveway. Typical appointment time: about 1 hr 30 min, one dog at a time.
Every yorkipoo starts with a comb to the skin. Wetting a mat tightens it, so nothing goes in the tub tangled.
A gentle shampoo suited to the coat's curl, a light conditioner through the furnishings, and a tearless wash on the face.
Warm, low-pressure air while brushing so the coat dries straight and full — that's what makes an even haircut possible.
Body clipped or scissored to your chosen length, face rounded, ears tidied and legs evened out.
Ear hair cleared and canals cleaned, nails clipped and ground, pads and sanitary tidied, then a light spritz before we hand them back.
This is the full step-by-step process K-Pup Dog Grooming uses for yorkipoos in southern Maine.

Fun Facts
We groom a lot of yorkipoos, and every one of them reminds us why the breed has such a loyal following. Here's what we love about the yorkipoo.
One litter can produce silky, wavy and tightly curled puppies. The grooming plan follows the coat, not the label on the paperwork.
Poodles and Yorkies are both quick studies. Yorkipoos learn tricks fast — and learn how to get out of things just as fast.
Low shedding is the reason people choose the cross and the reason the comb has to come out several times a week.
The poodle side usually adds a little leg and a little substance, which makes yorkipoos better hiking partners than their size suggests.
Apricots fade to cream and blacks silver out over a few years. It's normal and has nothing to do with the shampoo.
Both parent breeds hate being alone. A yorkipoo is at its best somewhere in the same room as you.

Yorkipoo Grooming FAQ
Every 4–6 weeks, sooner if the coat is curly. Between visits, comb to the skin two or three times a week — behind the ears, in the armpits and under the collar.
No dog truly is, but yorkipoos shed very little and many allergy-sensitive owners do well with them. That low shedding is exactly why the coat mats if it isn't combed.
An inch to an inch and a half is the sweet spot for most yorkipoos in Maine — plush enough to look like a doodle, short enough to dry quickly after a wet walk.
Yes, and we'd rather see them early. A first visit around 12–16 weeks is short, positive and mostly about teaching the dog that the table and the dryer are fine.
They fall in our small-dog tier, with de-matting priced separately when it's needed. Full pricing is on our services page.
