Hand-Stripped Westies
Stripping keeps the coat harsh, bright white and naturally dirt-shedding. It's the best option for dogs with itchy skin, since a harsh coat sits better than a soft one.
Clipped Pet Trims
Easier and quicker, with a softer, slightly cream-toned result. Most family Westies live very happily in a clipped trim with a scissored head and skirt.
The Round Westie Head
The chrysanthemum head — full, round and scissored, not clipped — is the detail that makes a Westie look like a Westie. We shape it by hand every time.
Puppies & Seniors
Puppy coats are soft and need gentle introductions; seniors get a low table, a warm bath and short handling sessions. Same pattern, different pace.

Skin comes first
Westies are famously prone to atopic skin disease. We use gentle, soap-free or medicated-style shampoos, rinse twice, and dry completely — damp skin under a Westie coat is where trouble starts.
Brightening without bleaching
A whitening shampoo lifts sand, salt and beach grit and softens tear staining around the eyes. No harsh bleaching products, ever, on skin this reactive.
Face, feet and skirt
The beard, feet and belly skirt collect the most dirt and mat first. We comb them to the skin, trim the outline and keep the feet tidy so less of the coast comes home with you.
Ears and nails
Ear tips get neatened so the ears stand cleanly, canals are checked and cleaned, and nails are clipped and ground — Westie nails grow fast and quicks follow them.

Our Process
How we groom a West Highland White Terrier.
Every west highland white terrier appointment follows the same order, start to finish, in the trailer in your driveway. Typical appointment time: about 1 hr 20 min, one dog at a time.
Skin and coat check
We part the coat and look at the skin first — Westies hide hot spots and irritation under all that white — then comb the beard, skirt and feet.
Strip or rough-in
If we're stripping, the dead coat comes out by hand on a dry coat. If we're clipping, we take the bulk off before the bath.
Brightening bath and double rinse
A gentle whitening or medicated-style shampoo worked to the skin, left to sit, then rinsed twice so nothing is left behind to itch.
Complete dry
Dried fully at a low, comfortable temperature with the coat combed straight — damp Westie skin is where most problems start.
Head, skirt and outline
The round chrysanthemum head scissored by hand, the skirt and legs shaped, and the ear tips neatened so the ears stand cleanly.
Feet, nails, ears and finish
Pads shaved, feet rounded, nails clipped and ground, ears cleaned and sanitary tidied before we hand your dog back.

White on purpose
The story goes that a Scottish laird lost a wheaten-colored terrier to a mistaken shot and bred only white dogs from then on, so they'd never be confused with a fox again.
Built to go underground
Westies were bred to bolt fox and badger from rocky dens. The digging in your garden is a job application, not a bad habit.
The coat is meant to be harsh
A correct hard coat sheds mud on its own. It's also why hand-stripping often suits itchy Westie skin better than clipping does.
Enormous personality, small dog
Confident, chatty and completely unbothered by dogs five times their size. A Westie has never once considered backing down.
Sun and salt are the enemy
White coats pick up staining from salt water and iron-rich well water. A brightening bath after beach season resets the whole dog.

How often should a Westie be groomed?
Every 6 to 8 weeks for a full trim, with a bath in between if your dog swims or digs. Beach dogs usually want the shorter end of that range.
Why is my white Westie turning yellow?
Usually a mix of saliva staining, tear staining and salt or iron in water. A brightening shampoo and a thorough double rinse lifts most of it; the rest grows out with the coat.
Should my Westie be hand-stripped?
If the coat is still harsh and your dog tolerates it, stripping keeps the texture and often helps itchy skin. If the coat has already gone soft from years of clipping, stripping won't bring it all the way back and clipping is the kinder choice.
Can grooming help my Westie's itching?
It helps a lot. Regular bathing removes allergens sitting on the skin, and gentle products plus complete drying reduce flare-ups. Persistent itching still needs a vet — grooming supports treatment, it doesn't replace it.
Do you groom nervous small terriers?
Yes. One dog at a time, no other dogs barking, and your driveway right outside the door. Most nervous terriers settle far faster in the trailer than in a salon.
