Goldendoodles are the single most common dog we groom on the southern Maine coast — and the most commonly matted. K-Pup is a mobile goldendoodle grooming service: one dog at a time in a quiet vintage trailer parked in your driveway, with the brushing time a doodle coat actually needs built into every appointment.

Wavy (F1) Goldendoodle Coats
The classic shaggy fleece. It looks low-maintenance and isn't — the wave hides matting at the skin line, especially behind the ears, in the collar and under the harness. We line-brush to the skin, bathe with a coat-conditioning system, high-velocity dry, then scissor a shape that grows out evenly instead of clumping.
Curly (F1B / Multigen) Coats
More poodle means tighter curl, more density, and far less tolerance for skipped brushings. Curly doodles do best on a 4–6 week cycle with a defined length. We hand-scissor the head into a round teddy-bear finish and keep the body length honest so the coat never gets ahead of you.
Flat / Straight Coats
Some F1 doodles carry a retriever-leaning coat that sheds instead of matting. These get a deshedding bath, carding, and a full blow-out — plus feathering tidied on the ears, tail and legs so they keep the doodle shape without the fluff.
Mini & Petite Goldendoodles
Minis under 35 lbs are usually in and out in about 90 minutes. Small doodles mat just as fast as big ones but tire quicker on the table, so we work in a single focused session with no crate time and no waiting room.

A doodle coat is a full-time job. We do the hard part.
Brushing to the skin, not the surface
Most matting we find is invisible from the top of the coat. We line-brush in sections down to the skin so nothing gets clippered off unnecessarily — and we'll show you exactly where your dog mats so brushing at home takes five minutes, not thirty.
Salt water, sand and burrs
Doodles love the water, and a Maine beach day packs salt and sand deep into a fleece coat. Every groom includes a clarifying wash and a full dry — damp doodle coat is how hot spots start.
Ears, eyes and face furnishings
Drop ears with hair in the canal trap moisture and are the #1 vet visit for doodles. We clean and dry ears every time, tidy the eye corners so tear stain doesn't set, and shape the muzzle so food and water don't sit in the beard.
The honest matting conversation
If a coat is pelted, brushing it out is painful and unsafe. We'll tell you straight, take it short humanely, and build a plan to grow it back into the length you actually want. Comfort over cosmetics, always.

Our Process
How we groom a Goldendoodle.
Every goldendoodle appointment follows the same order, start to finish, in the trailer in your driveway. Typical appointment time: about 2 hr 30 min, one dog at a time.
Driveway arrival and coat assessment
We park the trailer at your curb and run our hands through the coat before anything else — behind the ears, the collar line, armpits and the back end. That five-minute check tells us whether your doodle is getting a full scissor groom or needs de-matting time built in, and we tell you honestly before we start.
Line brushing and de-matting to the skin
Working in sections from the skin out, we line-brush the entire coat with a slicker and comb. Nothing goes in the tub matted — water tightens a mat into felt. If a section won't comb through humanely, we shave that area short rather than pull on the skin.
Two-stage bath
A clarifying wash strips salt, pond water and beach sand, then a moisturizing doodle-coat conditioner rehydrates the fleece so it scissors cleanly. Everything is done with warm fresh water in the trailer's tub.
High-velocity dry and fluff-out
A force dryer pushes water out of the undercoat and lifts the fleece straight — critical for goldendoodles, because a towel-dried or kennel-dried doodle mats within a week. We finish with a fluff dry to set the coat for scissoring.
Hand-scissored teddy bear trim
We set the body length you asked for, then hand-scissor the head, muzzle and ears into a round teddy bear shape and blend the legs into clean columns. The goal is a shape that grows out evenly for eight weeks instead of clumping at week three.
Nails, ears, sanitary and finish
Nails clipped and ground smooth, ear hair cleared and canals wiped, sanitary and paw pads tidied, then a light coastal-safe spritz. We hand you back a dog you can put straight on the couch.

How often should a goldendoodle be groomed?
Every 4–6 weeks for a full groom, with brushing at home 3–4 times a week. Curly F1B coats sit at the 4-week end; wavy F1 coats can often stretch to 6. Waiting 3+ months almost always means a short reset instead of the length you wanted.
What is a teddy bear cut?
A rounded head with the muzzle left full, ears blended, and an even body length — usually 1 to 2 inches. It's the look most goldendoodle owners mean when they say "leave it fluffy," and it's what we do by default unless you ask for something shorter.
Why did my doodle have to be shaved?
When a coat pelts, mats bond to the skin and dematting becomes painful and unsafe. Clipping under the mat is the humane option. It always grows back — and a 6-week schedule prevents it from happening again.
Do you groom mini and medium goldendoodles?
Yes, every size from petite minis up to 80+ lb standards. Mobile grooming is especially good for large doodles that struggle in a busy salon environment.
