Full-Length Coats
A floor-length Maltese coat is single, silky and completely unforgiving. It needs combing every day at home and a straight-dry finish at every groom so it parts and hangs instead of frizzing. We trim the floor line and feet and leave the length alone.
Puppy Cuts & Teddy Bear Trims
The practical choice for most Maltese in Maine. Short, even body length with a soft round head, tidy ears and clean feet. Easy to brush, easy to dry, and it still keeps that bright white cloud look.
Face, Beard & Topknot
Maltese faces stain easily where hair holds moisture. We can go short and round or keep a longer fall in a topknot — either way we clean the eye corners, keep the muzzle dry and shape it so the eyes stay clear.
Puppies & Seniors
First grooms are short and confidence-building. Older Maltese get a low-stress comfort trim, non-slip footing, a break whenever they need one, and no standing for longer than they're happy to.

Brightening without bleach
We use whitening shampoo systems and a clarifying wash to lift yellowing from sand, salt and grass — no bleaching agents, no harsh chemicals near the eyes.
Tear stain routine
Staining is moisture plus time. We clean the corners, trim the hair that wicks tears down the cheek, dry the face properly and give you a simple daily wipe routine that actually keeps up.
Single coat, no undercoat
Maltese don't blow coat, so they mat rather than shed. Combing to the skin is the whole game, and we'll show you where your dog's coat is tightest so home brushing takes minutes.
Coastal sand and salt
Goose Rocks sand works its way into a silky coat and grinds at the skin. Every groom includes a full rinse, conditioner and complete dry so nothing is left sitting against the skin.

Our Process
How we groom a Maltese.
Every maltese appointment follows the same order, start to finish, in the trailer in your driveway. Typical appointment time: about 1 hr 20 min, one dog at a time.
Comb-out and skin check
A full comb to the skin before any water touches the coat — wetting a mat only tightens it. We check the eye corners, ears and paw pads at the same time.
Brightening bath
A whitening shampoo system lifts sand, salt and grass staining, followed by conditioner and a tearless face wash.
Straight dry
We brush-dry the coat straight so it hangs and parts correctly, drying the beard and eye area completely to slow staining.
Trim to length
Puppy cut, teddy bear or a full-length tidy — body scissored or clipped, head rounded, ears and skirt evened.
Face, feet, nails and ears
Eye corners cleared, muzzle shaped, pads shaved, feet rounded, nails clipped and ground, ears cleaned and dried.

Maltese Grooming FAQ

How often does a Maltese need grooming?
Every 4–6 weeks for a short trim, every 3–4 weeks for a long coat. Daily combing at home is what keeps a full-length Maltese coat possible.
Can you get rid of tear stains?
We can lighten them and stop them getting worse with trimming, cleaning and drying. Existing stained hair has to grow out — there's no safe product that erases it near the eyes.
Will whitening shampoo hurt my dog's skin?
No. We use dog-specific brightening systems, not bleach, and we follow with conditioner. If your Maltese has sensitive skin we'll switch to an oatmeal or medicated base instead.
My Maltese is matted — will you shave her?
Only as far as comfort requires. If the coat is pelted, brushing it out is painful, so we take it to a safe length humanely and give you a plan to grow it back.
Do you groom senior Maltese?
Yes. Seniors get shorter sessions, warm water, non-slip footing and as many breaks as they need. Comfort comes before finish work every time.
