The Full Standing Coat
A Samoyed's coat should stand off the body in a bright white halo. We bathe with a whitening, coat-conditioning shampoo, blow the undercoat out completely with a high-velocity dryer, and finish with scissors only around the feet and outline so the coat keeps its natural loft.
Coat Blow Season
Twice a year the undercoat releases in earnest, and a Samoyed that isn't blown out properly can carry mats hidden under a coat that still looks fluffy on top. Line-brushing to the skin before the bath is what actually catches this.
Puppy Samoyeds
Samoyed puppies carry a soft, cottony coat that mats easily around the collar and behind the ears long before the adult guard coat comes in. Gentle early visits teach a young sammy to enjoy the brush instead of fighting it.
Senior Samoyeds
Older Samoyeds tire in a long dry and are prone to hip issues common in the breed. We work in shorter stages, support the hindquarters, and keep the dryer at a comfortable distance from stiff joints.

The dense double coat is the dog's insulation against both cold and summer sun, and shaving it removes that protection while risking a coat that grows back patchy or discolored. Everything we do stays scissors-and-dryer over an intact undercoat.
Undercoat removal is the whole job
A packed undercoat traps moisture and heat against the skin and is the leading cause of hot spots in the breed. Thorough line-brushing and a real high-velocity blow-out — not a quick towel-dry — is what keeps a Samoyed's skin healthy underneath all that fluff.
Keeping white coats white near the coast
Salt spray, sand and grass stains show up fast on a Samoyed's pale coat after a walk at Goose Rocks Beach. A whitening shampoo, thorough rinse and a light finishing spray keep the coat bright instead of dingy.

Our Process
How we groom a Samoyed.
Every samoyed appointment follows the same order, start to finish, in the trailer in your driveway. Typical appointment time: about 1 hr 30 min, one dog at a time.
Line-brush to the skin
The full standing coat sectioned and brushed to skin level, checking the ruff and britches for hidden mats before bathing.
Whitening, deshedding bath
A whitening shampoo and deshedding conditioner worked through the coat, with a tearless wash on the face.
High-velocity blow-out
Every section blown out fully so the coat stands off the body the way a Samoyed's coat should, not just towel-dried flat.
Scissored outline
Feet, hocks and the outline tidied with scissors only, keeping length and lift on the body.
Face and mouth cleanup
The corners of the mouth cleaned gently to keep the white fur there bright and free of drool staining.
Nails, ears and finish
