Morkie Dog Grooming.

A morkie is a Maltese-Yorkie cross with a fine, continuously growing coat and a body that usually weighs less than a bag of flour. K-Pup is a mobile morkie grooming service built for small dogs: warm water, low dryer pressure, short sessions and no crate time — all in a quiet trailer parked at your house.

Every Coat, Every Length

Grooming for every kind of morkie.

Morkies land anywhere between the two parent coats, so no two haircuts are identical. Coat background for both sides starts with the AKC Maltese breed page.

Silky Yorkie-Leaning Coats

Fine, flat and glossy with tan and black or steel colouring. It stays cleaner than you'd expect but knots quickly behind the ears and under a harness. We straight-dry it so it hangs and shines.

Fluffy Maltese-Leaning Coats

Softer, whiter and much more cottony — the coat that felts if a week of brushing gets skipped. A shorter, even puppy cut is usually the kindest choice for both dog and owner.

Puppy Cuts & Teddy Trims

Half an inch to an inch all over with a rounded head and tidy ears. It's what most Maine morkie owners want: easy to brush, quick to dry after a wet walk, and still very cute.

Topknots, Bows & Short Faces

Long fall hair either goes up in a soft band or comes off short. Either way we clear the eyes, clean the corners and keep the muzzle from staying wet.

Built For Tiny Dogs

Small body, careful hands.

Warmth first

A five-pound dog loses heat fast. Our trailer is heated, the water is warm, and no morkie goes home damp — full dry, every visit, even in August.

Tear stains and face care

Light faces stain around the eyes and mouth. We clean the corners, trim the hair off the lashes and keep the beard short enough to dry between drinks.

Teeth and nails matter more

Toy crosses are prone to dental disease and to knees that slip when nails get long. Short nails and a teeth-brushing add-on do real work for a morkie's long-term comfort.

Handling with intent

Tiny dogs get overwhelmed, not just scared. We work steadily, keep a hand on them the whole time, and finish most morkies inside an hour.

For toy-breed health reading — dental care, patellas and weight — the AKC Canine Health Foundation is a reliable, non-commercial starting point.

Our Process

How we groom a Morkie.

Every morkie appointment follows the same order, start to finish, in the trailer in your driveway. Typical appointment time: about 1 hr 15 min, one dog at a time.

  1. Gentle handling and comb-through

We settle the dog on the table, comb behind the ears, under the collar and through the armpits, and check eyes, ears, teeth and nails.

  2. Warm bath, light products

Warm water, low pressure and a light shampoo made for fine hair, with a tearless cleanser around the eyes and beard.

  3. Warm, quiet dry

Low-pressure warm air with a hand on the dog throughout. Tiny dogs chill fast, so nothing goes home damp.

  4. Trim and shape

Body clipped or scissored to your length, face rounded or the fall set in a soft topknot, ears and skirt evened out.

  5. Feet, nails and finish

Pads shaved, feet rounded, sanitary tidied, nails clipped and ground smooth, ears cleaned, and a bow if you'd like one.

Fun Facts

The best things about morkies.

We groom a lot of morkies, and every one of them reminds us why the breed has such a loyal following. Here's what we love about the morkie.

Two toy breeds, one cross

Maltese for the silk, Yorkie for the spark. Morkies land somewhere between a lap dog and a very small terrier.

Hair, not fur

Both parents grow continuously and shed almost nothing, which is why combing is the whole ballgame for this cross.

Convinced they're enormous

A morkie will stare down a Newfoundland on the beach without breaking stride. The terrier side does not negotiate.

Perfect apartment dogs

Small, adaptable and happy with a short walk plus a warm lap — as long as the lap is available most of the day.

Colours change with age

Many morkies are born dark and lighten to gold, silver or cream as the adult coat comes in. The dog you get at two isn't the puppy you brought home.

Teeth first

Toy crosses crowd a lot of teeth into a small jaw. Brushing at home genuinely adds good years to a morkie's life.

Morkie Grooming FAQ

Questions morkies owners ask us.

How often should a morkie be groomed?

Every 4–6 weeks. Morkie hair grows continuously like a Yorkie's, so a regular schedule plus two or three brush-throughs a week is what keeps the coat comfortable.

What haircut is best for a morkie?

A puppy cut — a half inch to an inch all over with a rounded face. It suits both coat types, dries fast after a Maine walk, and grows out evenly.

Do morkies shed?

Barely. Both parent breeds are low shedding, which means loose hair stays in the coat and turns into mats if it isn't combed out.

My morkie hates the dryer — can you work with that?

Yes. We use low pressure, take breaks, and can do a good part of the dry by hand and towel. One dog at a time means we're never rushing your dog through it.

How much does morkie grooming cost in southern Maine?

Morkies sit in our smallest size tier. See the services page for the full list — mobile grooming includes the drive, and there's no travel fee inside our service area.
