Cockapoos are one of the oldest designer mixes, and their coats can surprise owners: some are silky and straight, some curly, and most mat somewhere in between. K-Pup grooms cockapoos one at a time in a calm mobile trailer at your southern Maine home.

Generations & Cocker Influence
American Cocker Spaniel and English Cocker Spaniel lines give different coat types, and the poodle percentage changes everything. The parent breed background is on the AKC Cocker Spaniel page.
More spaniel influence means a longer, silkier coat that tangles rather than curls. These coats need careful line-brushing and often look best in a medium-length scissor trim with feathering on the legs and ears.
More poodle means a denser, curlier coat that holds water and mats fast. Curly cockapoos do best on a 4–6 week schedule with a defined length so the coat doesn't get ahead of the brush.
Small cockapoos are in and out in about an hour. We keep sessions brief, use low tables, and never rush a sensitive little dog. A lot of our small cockapoo clients started in mobile because salons were too overwhelming.
Buff, apricot, chocolate, black and parti cockapoos all share the same grooming needs, but the feathering on the ears, legs and tail is what gives them their look. We scissor that feathering to a length that stays clean and doesn't drag.

Cocker-Ear Care
Cocker Spaniel heritage means long, heavy ears that trap moisture. Ear infections are the most common cockapoo health issue we see. We clean, dry, and remove excess hair from the canal every single visit.
Cockapoos can inherit sensitive skin and seborrhea. We use a gentle, conditioning shampoo and avoid over-stripping the coat. If your dog is itchy, we note it and may recommend a vet check before anything else.
The long cocker muzzle and big eyes need regular tidying. We keep the hair out of the eyes, trim the muzzle so food doesn't stick, and clean the eye corners so staining doesn't set.
Maine beach walks mean salt in the coat and burrs in the feathering. A clarifying bath and a careful brush-out keep the coat from drying out and the burrs from turning into mats near the skin.

Cockapoo Grooming FAQ
Every 4–6 weeks for a full groom, with ear and face tidies every 2–3 weeks. Silky coats may need more frequent brushing; curly coats need more frequent trims.
Curly cockapoos shed very little but mat easily. Silky cockapoos can shed into the coat and onto furniture. Regular brushing and the right shampoo make a big difference either way.
Long, heavy ears trap moisture and debris. Professional ear cleaning and drying at each groom, plus keeping the ear hair managed, is the best prevention. Persistent odor warrants a vet check.
