Our Process
How we groom a Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier.
Every soft coated wheaten terrier appointment follows the same order, start to finish, in the trailer in your driveway. Typical appointment time: about 1 hr 45 min, one dog at a time.
Line-brush before anything else
Full-body brushing down to the skin to find and clear tangles before water ever touches the coat.
Conditioning bath

Full dry with tension

How often should a Wheaten Terrier be groomed?
Every 4 to 6 weeks, with brushing at home several times a week in between. The soft single coat mats faster than owners expect once the schedule slips.
Do Wheatens shed?
Very little compared to most breeds, since the coat grows continuously rather than blowing out seasonally. That's part of why the breed is popular with allergy-sensitive households, but it also means hair has to be cut, not just brushed away.
What's the difference between a puppy cut and show trim?
A puppy cut is short and even all over and is far easier to maintain mat-free. A show trim keeps significant length with careful shaping and requires daily brushing to stay presentable.
Why does my Wheaten's coat feel coarse or dry?
Salt air, sun and infrequent conditioning can all dry out the coat's natural softness. A conditioning treatment during the groom and a rinse after beach or ocean walks helps restore it.
My Wheaten's coat is badly matted. What are my options?
We'll assess honestly — sometimes a careful brush-out is possible, but heavily bonded mats are safer and kinder to clip short. Either way we build a plan to get the coat back to the length you want.
