Natural Coat Maintenance
The breed standard keeps a cavalier untrimmed, and most owners want exactly that. We bathe, condition, dry straight and comb through the feathering, tidying only what's ragged so the natural silhouette stays.
Ear Feathering
Those long ears are the first thing to knot and the first place moisture hides. We comb them out from the tip up, clean and dry the canal, and thin the hair on the underside if airflow is a problem.
Feet, Hocks & Sanitary
Hair between the pads collects sand, ice balls and burrs. We shave between the pads, round the feet, tidy the hocks and keep the sanitary area clean — the trims that make a real daily difference.
Puppies & Seniors

Cavaliers do shed. We bathe, high-velocity dry and comb the feathering out so loose coat leaves in the trailer instead of on your couch.
Heart-aware handling
Mitral valve disease is common in the breed. We keep sessions short and calm, watch breathing, avoid stressful restraint and never rush a dog who needs a pause.
Beach coat and feathering
Feathering acts like a mop on a Maine beach. A clarifying wash plus a full straight dry clears sand and salt out of the skirt, legs and ears.

Our Process
How we groom a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.
Every cavalier king charles spaniel appointment follows the same order, start to finish, in the trailer in your driveway. Typical appointment time: about 1 hr 15 min, one dog at a time.
Comb-out and ear check
We comb the feathering from the tips up — ears, chest, legs and skirt — and look inside the ears before anything else happens.
Bath and condition
A clarifying or gentle shampoo depending on the coat, conditioner through the feathering, and a careful rinse right down to the skin.
High-velocity dry
Drying pulls loose coat out and straightens the feathering. We dry the inside of the ear leather completely — damp cavalier ears are how infections start.
Tidy, not clip
Ragged feathering evened, hocks tidied, feet rounded, pads shaved and sanitary cleaned, leaving the natural body coat intact.
Nails, ears and finish
Nails clipped and ground, ears cleaned, a final comb through the ear and chest feathering, and a light finishing spray.

Named for a king
King Charles II was so devoted to these spaniels that they were reportedly allowed in any building in England, Parliament included.

How often should a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel be groomed?
Every 6–8 weeks, with brushing at home once or twice a week, focused on the ear feathering, chest and behind the legs.
Should a cavalier's coat be clipped?
Traditionally no — the breed is shown untrimmed. We tidy feet, hocks, pads and sanitary and leave the body coat natural, unless you specifically want a shorter practical trim.
How do you handle cavalier ear problems?
We clean and thoroughly dry the ears every visit and can thin the hair underneath to improve airflow. If we see redness, odour or discharge we'll tell you to see your vet — we don't treat infections.
My cavalier has a heart murmur. Can he still be groomed?
Yes, with care. Short sessions, calm handling, minimal restraint and breaks whenever he needs them. Tell us at booking and we'll plan the appointment around it.
Do cavaliers shed a lot?
Moderately, year-round, with heavier periods in spring and fall. A regular bath, blow-out and comb-out removes a lot of it before it reaches your floors.
