Black Giants
A black jacket shows every clipper line and sun-bleached patch. We clip with the coat, blend carefully into the furnishings and finish with a conditioning rinse that puts the shine back.
Pepper-and-Salt Giants
The banded coat needs the dead hair cleared or the color goes flat and grey. Carding the jacket at every visit keeps the pattern crisp.
Working & Protection Dogs
Giants in sport or protection work need short, functional coats and immaculate skin. We keep the jacket tight, the furnishings practical and the feet neat.
Adolescent Giants
Between eight months and two years a giant's coat comes in fast and heavy while the dog is still learning to stand still. Shorter, more frequent visits work far better than one marathon groom.

Time and patience, not force
A 90-pound dog can't be manhandled and shouldn't be. We work in stages with breaks, and if a giant needs two shorter visits instead of one long one, we book it that way.
The undercoat has to come out
Under the wire jacket sits a soft undercoat that packs down against the skin. A high-velocity blow-out plus an undercoat rake is the only thing that clears it properly.
Beard, chest and armpits
The three places giants mat: a wet working beard, the chest furnishings and the friction points under the front legs. All three get line-combed to the skin every visit.
Nails, pads and joints
Big dogs need short nails to stay sound. We clip and grind, shave the pads clean and keep the dog on a non-slip surface the whole time to protect hips and elbows.

Our Process
How we groom a Giant Schnauzer.
Every giant schnauzer appointment follows the same order, start to finish, in the trailer in your driveway. Typical appointment time: about 2 hr 15 min, one dog at a time.
Settle and assess
Big dogs get a minute to settle in the trailer. We check the jacket, undercoat, furnishings and skin, and plan breaks before we start.
Pre-work and de-matting
Chest, armpits and beard get combed to the skin, and any packed undercoat is raked out before water touches the coat.
Bath and high-velocity dry
A full wash worked to the skin, thorough rinse, then a long high-velocity blow-out that pushes the remaining undercoat out and dries the furnishings straight.
Jacket and pattern
The jacket clipped or carded, blended into the chest and hindquarters, with the classic schnauzer lines set on a much bigger canvas.
Beard, brows and furnishings
Beard washed, combed and squared, eyebrows angled, legs and skirt scissored into a practical working outline.
Nails, pads, ears and cool-down
Nails clipped and ground, pads shaved, ears cleaned, sanitary tidied, then a few quiet minutes before the dog steps down.

How often should a giant schnauzer be groomed?
Every 6 to 8 weeks. Longer gaps mean packed undercoat and matted furnishings, which turns a trim into a much longer, more expensive de-matting appointment.
How long does a giant schnauzer groom take?
Usually two hours or a bit more, depending on coat condition. We book giants with extra time so nothing gets rushed.
Do you charge more for large breeds?

Can you groom a protective or reactive giant?
Often, yes. Mobile grooming helps enormously: it's your driveway, one dog, no strange dogs, and you're right there. Tell us up front and we'll plan the visit around it.
Should a giant schnauzer be shaved in summer?
We keep the jacket short rather than skin-close. Removing the undercoat and tightening the jacket cools the dog far better than a shave, and it protects against sunburn on the beach.
